Love Vs. Reality Explanation

Proposal Explanation

Love vs. Reality
Explanation

What is love? Webster defines love as: strong affection for another arising out of kinship or personal ties (2): attraction based on sexual desire: affection and tenderness felt by lovers (3): affection based on admiration, benevolence, or common interests b: an assurance of love 2: warm attachment, enthusiasm, or devotion. We are bombarded by images of love everyday. We see scenarios of love on TV shows, movies, magazines, billboards, we even see people walking down the street holding hands and the occasional couple exhibiting PDA. The movies, particularly Disney would lead us to believe that the guy always gets the girl and vice versa. We all know the Disney classics Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, and The little Mermaid. Starting in childhood we’re told how beautiful love is, how much we should want it and we all wish to obtain it throughout our lives. But is love really that simple? Love can bring happiness but it can also bring along sadness, pain and sometimes tragedy.

The piece I create will be titled “Love vs. Reality”. The piece is about love, the ups and downs, pros and cons and good and bad of the four letter word. The set up will include a video/series of images, sound and words being projected onto a heart. The equipment required to showcase the piece is a heart sculpture, red/black roses, arrows, nails, projector and a table/pedestal. I chose these props because they symbolize love and pain. The heart, red roses, and arrows will symbolize the good associated with love as roses and arrows are a big part of Valentines Day, the holiday of love. The black roses and nails will be used to symbolize the pain that is sometimes brought on by love. The video will be an endless loop of photographs, words and sound that will invoke feelings of happiness and sadness. The photographs will be black and white and include images of couples holding hands, kissing and having dinner in a restaurant. Photographs of the lonely (those who want love) will include images of a lonely girl/boy and words such as lonely, forgotten and wishing. Photographs of Unrequited/love lost will show images of a couple with their backs to one another, rain, and tears.

The heart sculpture will be made of foam or plastic and will be 3 Dimensional. The nails and arrows will be embedded into the heart and made took look like they are puncturing it. There will be three red roses and three black that will lay the left and right side of the heart. The video of photographs will be projected in the center of the heart and music will accompany the images. The goal of this piece is to show the different sides of love, the good and the bad. Yes love is romance, hand-holding and happiness but love is sometimes unrequited, causes tears, and can end in tragedy.

New years was a blast
Spent it @ Club RA with Amanda
Got there @ 8:50 way to early
free Party Favors
It got pretty packed around 10
they played "pour some sugar on Me" and 'I Will Survive"
lots of singing
lots of dancing
lost amanda in the crowd right as the countdown began
but I found her and we toasted.
This year is going to be my year
I can feel it in my bones
It's my turn
I'm determined to make it
